Sainsbury’s introduces cardboard trays

Sainsbury’s has removed plastic trays from its by Sainsbury’s steak range, replacing them with a cardboard tray alternative. The move will result in a 70% reduction in plastic per tray and is set to save 249 tonnes of plastic each year. The change is another step towards Sainsbury’s commitment to half its use of own brand plastic packaging by 2025.

The new trays will launch across 10 products in the range and are available in all stores and online from July 5th. They can be recycled at home by rinsing the cardboard before placing it in a kerb side recycling bin.
