Celebrating Print – one day technical seminar at MIT, Manipal

Department of Printing and Media Engineering, MIT, Manipal organised “Celebrating print”- a one day technical seminar for Bengaluru printing fraternity at Manipal Academy of Banking campus, Bengaluru with the theme “New Horizons, New Hopes.”

During the inaugural session, BE Satish, President, Karnataka Offset Printers Association (KOPA), the chief guest of the occasion, highlighted the current challenges faced by the printers of Karnataka and emphasized the need of unity of all the printers to confront challenges to be successful printers by achieving higher profitability.

O Venugopal, Vice president (South) AIFMP, the other chief guest, was resourceful in sharing how the printing technology has evolved from manual operations to sophisticated automatic processing machines.

Richard D’Sa, AVP, Marketing, Manipal Technologies Ltd, who was the Guest of Honor, explained the current trends of print business in comparison with the digital publishing trends emerging in the market.

While, Murali K, Deputy Director, MGA of BFSI highlighted the contribution of print industry in strengthening the Indian economy. In the opening speech during the inaugural programme, HOD, Prof. Dr. Amruthraj H Krishnan, emphasized the need for constant updation and upgradation of knowledge, skills and technology to remain abreast in today’s highly competitive print market.

In his keynote address, V Vaidyalingam, Director – Folding carton delivered a talk titled “PEP Talk on the Time Bomb”. He highlighted that when looked through the prism of Pollution/Economy/employment – Pollution we get the answers for most of the serious issues that we as individuals, as business or as society face today. Amritpal Singh Bawa, National Head – Business Development DIS of TechNova Imaging Systems (P) Ltd spoke on “Driving Value through Innovative Embellishments.” While, Madhukar Manoj, NSM, Bottcher (I) Pvt Ltd presented “Bottcher – Creating Difference. ”Ganesh Kumar, Product Manager – Labels, from Heidelberg (I) Ltd delivered an excellent presentation titled “TAG (Transform and Accelerate Growth) your Business.” Samarth Chandrashekar, BDM – Software, ESKO, delivered his views on “Enhancing Productivity through Prepress Automation.”

Gururaj Rotti, SAM – Converting and Graphic Arts, HB Fuller India Pvt. Ltd, presented on the topic “The best practices in adhesives.” While, Rajesh K S, AGM, R&D and QC, Unit 2 from Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers Ltd. (TNPL) presented the topic “What a Printer Should Know about Paper and Board” in which he explained in detail about the various properties of paper and paperboard required for high quality printing. Babu P, TSM (South), Redlands Machinery Pvt Ltd in his presentation “Converting Business – a Profit Center” revealed how huge the converting business is and the opportunities available in the area of converting especially in the area of envelope printing, confectionery product packages.

Gurudutt MS, Business Analyst – Digital Print, Electronics For Imaging (EFI), gave a presentation on “Print on Demand – Future of Short Run Digital Printing.” Vijetha Shastry, Lead – Open Innovation, NASSCOM (National Association of Software & Service Companies), shared the opportunities present in the field of innovations and incubation of new startups.

Tejas Alva, Associate of Global 3D Labs, in his presentation “3D Printing Technology and Market Trends“ conveyed to the audience that 3D printing is the next big technology on earth which offers lot of advantages in manufacturing like geometrical freedom, cost effectiveness, less material wastage, high speed in prototyping.

During the valedictory ceremony Chief Guest, Ravikumar KL, Principal, GIPT, Bengaluru addressed the need of right skill development of printing technologists to extract high quality and productivity.
