The 10th Printpack India 2011 poised to be the largest event ever

-with around 400 exhibitors having 18, 000+ sq m net booked area

Pragati Maidan, New DelhiAn international exhibition on printing, packaging, converting, signage and allied machinery industry organised by India Trade Promotion Organization (ITPO) jointly with IPAMA (Indian Printing, Packaging and Allied Machinery Manufacturers’ Association) from January 16-21, 2011 in New Delhi, the 10th Printpack India is going to be the largest event ever in south Asia presenting an effective platform to boost business while gauging the strength of graphic arts industry. “It’s the right time Indian printers should have confidence in Brand India,” says NS Manku, president, IPAMA in an exclusive conversation with Print & Publishing editor SK Khurana in presence of HV Seth and Satish Bajwa. Internationally printing shows are squeezing but the ‘Brand India’ show – our very own Printpack India – is growing. “Indian printing industry is now coming of age. Printpack India is a showcase of goods that Brand India is producing. We aim to project ourselves as the providers of both affordable as well as high-end technology to the world. The focus today is back to India for outsourcing and equipment needs as well,” told IPAMA president NS Manku. “And mind you, it’s not a bubble; we are still far away from what we would like to project ourselves internationally”.

Interestingly, out of approx 400 exhibitors participating at the Printpack India show, just 10 percent of the exhibitors are international companies. Thus the major 90 percent are actually very encouraging for the ‘Brand India’! “Infact, it is a wake-up call for printers not to go for used machinery from overseas, when better and affordable indigenous solutions are available,” added Manku. As a matter of fact, 25 percent of Indian machinery manufacturers participating at the show have already been testified and approved in international markets. “Also, it is a matter of pride that globally more than 60 percent of the web offset machinery market (coldset) is catered by the Indian manufacturers,” remarked Manku proudly.

“With Printpack India 2011 becoming a bi-annual event from this edition, initially, we were very apprehensive about the response we would get from the exhibitors as there are so many exhibitions happening in different parts of the country. Hence, we adopted a guarded approach and committed half the space of what we had committed in Printpack India 2009,” told Manku.

But, the show received overwhelming response from the printing fraternity. IPAMA is certainly elated with the response. “It is an extremely happy situation, the co-ordination between the various agencies has been cohesive and the results are there for everyone to see,” conveyed the overjoyed trio team. “The 8,000 sq m space was booked in the initial stage itself. After three months, we had to ask for additional space from ITPO to accommodate more exhibitors. If we had more space available initially, we would have attracted even more exhibitors,” he mentioned. IPAMA has tried its best to accommodate as many exhibitors as possible by creating additional space for them. Of the 265 odd members at IPAMA, about 70 percent shall be exhibiting at this show.

Talking about the display profile of various exhibitors at the show, HV Sheth, the convener informed that there would be a definite participation from all segments of the industry: pre-press, press, post press, packaging, newspapers and consumables.

“Printpack India will be a launch pad for new technologies or services developed indigenously or in collaboration with international counterparts. New products or services demonstrated at the 2009 edition of Printpack India may see an upgraded version this time,” said Manku.

IPAMA is expecting a footfall of 30,000-40,000 at the show. “We are sure to attract dedicated visitors to the show. We would also have delegates from countries like Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Malaysia, besides Gulf and East African countries,” added Satish Bajwa, general secretary, IPAMA.

To cater to such vast audience and the exhibitors, IPAMA is leaving no stone unturned. “We want people to see how efficiently we have handled a show of this magnitude. The entry to the show is free but to make it a real B2B show, we have disallowed entry of anybody below the age of 16 years. The entry passes shall be available at multiple entry locations. All the major food courts have been given a fresh facelift, the service facilities are better maintained, and the passages shall be neater. The metro station, situated near to the fairground shall make the visit to the exhibition more memorable for the visitors using public transport,” concluded Manku.
