DPA celebrates Printers’ Day

For the first time, Delhi Printers’ Association (DPA) celebrated its annual Printers’ Day by organising a get together honouring Senior Citizen members Naraina on February 24. This novel idea came up to realise the long-standing desire to bring senior printer members, who have served the industry for several decades, under one roof to not only refresh their memories but also exchange their experiences with each other in a relaxing atmosphere.

The event was attended by over 100 members from the printing and publishing field. Arun Berry, president, DPA welcomed the guests and reminded them that the association has been celebrating Printers’ Day on February 24 every year to commemorate the birth anniversary of Johannes Gutenberg who is famously called the Father of the Art of Printing.

Ravi Kanwar of Label House called printing an artistic profession which has a great scope and future and recalled how he developed his business from the ancient Chandler press to modern CpC enabled printing machines. Arun Aggarwal of Saraswati Offset Printers recalled his success story and proudly told that the then President of India had specially come to inaugurate their press.

The vice-president of DPA – OP Dewan of Dewan Offset Printers – called upon all printers not to indulge in cut-throat competition. While, the former principal of Pusa Polytechnic and a highly educated print technocrat – B D Mendiratta gave a brief of his career since 1964. He said he had helped DPA in starting its DPA Technical Training Centre in 1992. As author of seven books, he forecast that the printed word would survive and prevail and the future of print is very bright. Fully subscribing to Mendiratta’s observation, Arun Berry said that the print craft will outlast till the mankind survives. He hoped that he would work hand in hand with Mendiratta for setting up again a much-needed printing institute in Delhi.
