Mumbai-based Mail Order Solutions India Pvt Ltd (MOS), a part of The Regency Group, is a print management company, providing end-to-end integrated solutions, offering world-class print production and international postal and distribution services. More recently, the company has installed Ricoh IP5000 at their premises. Here, Devendra Bandwadkar, head production, Mail Order Solutions India Pvt Ltd shares about their new workhorse.

P&P: You have a full-fledged digital printing set-up and how does Ricoh IP5000 fit into it?

Devendra Bandwadkar in front of newly installed Ricoh IP5000Devendra: Customers are becoming more demanding and turnaround times, more stringent. In the past, we have been printing colour on offset shells on which variable data is printed using monochrome lasering machines. With the induction of the InfoPrint 5000 GP, we are now able to print colour and variable in one go, resulting in faster turnaround of jobs. With the addition of this equipment, we can now offer our clients one of the most cost-effective print technologies.

P&P: What features of Ricoh IP 5000 machine attracted you?

Devendra: The robustness of the machine and the proven track record of RICOH worldwide gave us confidence in the purchase. The RPD workflow, an IBM-Ricoh product, has a precise ink estimation tool, which helped us to go ahead with our decision.

P&P: What kind of applications are you doing/wish to do on this machine?

Devendra: We would be using this machine to print colour variable jobs, i.e., Transpromo, Direct Mail, Mail Order Catalogues, etc.

P&P: When was this machine got installed and how many prints have been taken on this machine till now? What are your targets from this web digital machine?

Devendra: The machine has been commissioned in the month of June and commercial production commenced by July end. We have crossed more than one crore A4 impressions till date. Going forward, we plan to produce one crore plus impressions every month.

P&P: What additional support did you get from Ricoh India while you decided to go for this machine?

Devendra: The Ricoh India team has been very supportive through the entire process of conception to implementation. They did a rigorous exercise of understanding our requirements and giving the right solutions including the post printing equipment. In the post installation, the service levels are great and their technical support is always available.

P&P: How do you plan to achieve early ROI after having invested in this high-end Ricoh machine?

Devendra: Simple mantra: print more, sooner than later.

P&P: Can you also tell us something about post printing equipment (finishing) installed with the printer along with its capabilities?

Devendra: We have commissioned a Hunkeler slitting line which is capable of slitting a roll into sheets at a speed of 100 meters per minute and delivering stacks of sheets. This machine is equipped with barcode readers to create dynamic stacks as per requirement.

These stacks are then loaded on the CMC automatic inserting machine which collates letters, inserts them into an envelope, and seals the envelopes.
