Labelexpo India: a great success

One of the largest events for the label, product decoration and converting industry, Labelexpo India (Dec 08-11, 2010) concluded in New Delhi, marking a great success with over 6,000 visitors’ attendance – a figure that was up by 27 percent from the show in the year 2008. Over 150 international and local exhibitors presented their latest developments in technology and materials, launched new products and gave live demonstrations. “We are very pleased with the event results. The show attracted high quality of visitors who were willing to invest in new technologies and keep their businesses developing. This was evident through the sales orders put through at the show. The show unveiled a lot of new innovative technologies that was seen for the first time in India,” commented Roger Pellow, managing director, Labelexpo.

Labelexpo India: a great success The show achieved its primary role of being the showcase for the label industry in India and the platform for the industry to grow. All the stalls were busy over the four days and the visitor traffic remained high with local manufacturers, such as Holostik India, Kaygee Loparex,

SMI Coated Products, Jesons, MLM, Weldon Celloplast and BST Sayona Automation exhibiting. Multitec ran a number of demonstrations on their stall which were very well attended and well received by the audience. Many international exhibitors chose Labelexpo India to launch their new products including: Gallus who showed for the first time in India its Gallus ECS 340 granite press, Nilpeter showed for the first time ever its new

FB-3300Servo Build press which was built in India and has a number of features for value-added printing, Omet showcased its Flexy and Flexy-S model ranges which are designed to offer simplicity and ease of use to label converters, Xeikon introduced the Xeikon 3000 Series, Gerhardt unveiled the High Blade Flexi which was one of seven new flexi die innovations the company had on display, and the latest model of the Performance Series line from Mark Andy, the P3 model also made its debut at Labelexpo India, as well as the P5 model also on display.

In addition to the newly launched RP 31 Purus adhesive and other solutions for pharmaceuticals labelling, UPM Raflatac presented several product innovations for textile, beverage and cosmetics labelling.  Standard Printers Providers (Mumbai), who represents Japan-based Taiyo Kikai Ltd in India, also participated in the show. Continuing to expand their installation base in India, Taiyo has already installed their

TLC-250 label/tube laminate printing presses at six printers so far, including Shree Rama Multitech Ltd, Ahmedabad; Borkar Packaging Pvt Ltd, Daman/Baddi (HP); Skypack, New Delhi; Essel Propack Ltd, Mumbai; NL Packaging (Orient Press Ltd), Silvassa; and Abdos Lamitubes Pvt Ltd, Guwahati. Jakob Landberg, sales and marketing director, Nilpeter said, “The activity at Labelexpo India has improved considerably since the first show in 2008. The number of visitors was undoubtedly up, but more important the quality and level of the attendees was very high. It is evident that the growth in India is strong and stable.” The best Indian printers and converters were recognized and awarded for their excellence and contribution to the advancement of the Indian label industry with LMAI Avery Dennison Label Awards and all these winners can now enter into the World Label Awards. In addition, two Indian printers – Any Graphics Pvt Ltd (managing director Kuldeep Goel) and Wintek Flexo Prints (managing director Gururaj Ballarwad) were recognized for winning prestigious World Label Award accolades for the year 2009/2010 in the competition against all the label printers from across the globe.

Danielle Brunet of ETI Converting Equipment said, “At Labelexpo India, ETI was able to promote its unique technology especially design to coat, laminate and print both sides of labels, thus generating a 50 percent cost reduction on raw material. Following the show, two contracts for this type of Cohesio equipment will be signed shortly in India for installations in mid 2011 and several other firms, who understood the advantages of the process, have asked for a quote. For ETI, 2010 was a successful year with increased sales worldwide.”

Amit Ahuja of Multitec said, “Multitec displayed it’s very successful Ecoflex press. Hundreds of visitors thronged the busy stand and the live demos were watched with great interest. This was the most focused show ever. We have several hot prospects which will soon turn into orders and printers took notice of a quality Indian manufacturer amidst all the large European manufacturers. Multitec closed the show with four confirmed orders for its Ecoflex press.” For RotoMetrics also the show was a huge success. “We had productive meetings with new and existing customers, and sealed multiple deals for new press tooling orders,” commented Shaun Pullen of RotoMetrics.

Creed announces five orders at Labelexpo India 2010

Labelexpo India 2010 in New Delhi was a successful event for Creed Engineers who received five confirmed orders from Astron Packaging Ltd (Ahmedabad), A & S Labels (Sonepat), Veekey Graphics (Mumbai), Shree Balaji Printers (Delhi), and Akshar Graphics (Ahmedabad). One of the leading corrugated boxes and self adhesive labels suppliers, Astron Packaging Ltd (a sister concern of INTAS Pharma) will install Omega Digicon Series 2 converting equipment from AB Graphics International. Nimish Chodkar, director (packaging), Astron Packaging, said that their main concern is for catering growing market of short run jobs to save time and wastage, mainly for proofing and sampling. The Digicon Series 2 is fully modular so minimizing initial investment and allowing machine capabilities to be expanded to meet end users requirements. All printing and converting modules come with automated pre-positioning giving minimum wastage and quick make ready. Besides, ABG Omega Slitter Rewinder with Fleye Camera inspection system will be installed at A & S Labels, Sonepat, Haryana.

Veekey Graphics (Prop. Printmann Offset Pvt Ltd), an offset printing house having infrastructure and facilities specially for executing pharmaceutical packaging materials, ordered Rotatek’s Brava. “Being from the offset background, transition into the label business was lot easier due to the Rotatek Combi. Now, to cater the growing demand of short /medium run along with long runs and maintain the offset quality, Rotatek Brava was the best option,” commented Tejas Tanna of Printmann Offset. Lintec 300 iTP is to be installed at Shree Balaji Printers, a full-fledged printing house providing complete range of high-quality printing services such as brochures, books, tags, leaflets, catalogues, etc. The 300 iTP is a revolutionary label press equipped with IP system which digitally controls the ink supply volume. According to Neeraj Sharma, general manager-machine sales, Creed Engineers, “Lintec 300 iTP intermittent rotary high-speed label printing machine not only shortens ink adjustment time and plate change time but also improves total printing processes.” Meanwhile, Akshar Graphics also placed order for Mekrom 302 EDLF (exposure, dryer & finisher) and 305P (inline flexo plate processor).

Primera at Labelexpo India

The stand of Primera attracted a lot of visitors where they had a live demo of their 1200 digita label system. “We felt that there is a big gap in label printing machines. Either there were desktop printers for low print runs or there were high-end machines suitable only for large print runs. Our new model 1200 machine fills in this gap. The machine is useful for high quality, pre-die cut labels, ideally suited for short to medium size production runs, where quality and flexibility is important. It is so cost- efficient that one can even print as low as one label and as high as 10,000 labels,” informed Timmi Hingston, sales & marketing director, Primera Asia Pacific. “The response from the visitors is very motivating and we are expecting a few deals soon.”

One needs not to face the hassles of prepress involving printing surface preparation at all as the labels are produced digitally. These products are marketed through Print Process Corporation, New Delhi. Available at the most affordable prices, Timmy told that these machines do not need any special training and are virtually maintenance free.

Weldon at Labelexpo India

At Labelexpo India, Weldon Celloplast was present with its principals, offering a wide range of labeling solutions. Ralph Beier, international sales manager, Roto Control informed about their 100% defect inspection system. He told that through Weldon Celloplast, they are eyeing not only the Indian market but also the UAE, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal. Their partnership with Weldon is just 2-3 months old and Weldon has already sold one RSC machine in the first month itself, which will be installed in January 2011. Talking about the USPs of the machines, Ralph said that they are 100 percent servo control machines with high speeds (320 m/min) and easy to use.

While, Raul Silvestre of Lasertec, informed about their cutting, magnetic and printing cylinders. He told that they know Weldon since last eight years and they are happy to partner with them. He remarked that the Indian market is growing very fast and there are changes almost every day and more and more people are buying good machines. He particularly emphasized about their delivery time which is just three days from the date of order and these cylinders are shipped from Spain -their parent country.

Also on display were the printing inspection and plate mounting machines from Tectonic International. Sheila Harper-Jones, managing director, Tectonic International, informed that they offer a range of equipments (K1, K2, Links and Jaguar) to suit all types of printers (small, medium and large). They are the first ones to offer a colour monitor in the low cost machines. “Our price ranges from US$ 5,000-50,000,” she added. The stall of Omet was abuzz with activity, where the live demo of Flexy label converter was conducted.
