The FY 2018-19 was a very good year for us as we experienced 18% growth. Our targets for last year were Rs 700 cr and we closed the year at RS 693 cr, shares Kuldeep Malhotra, Vice President, Konica Minolta.

“Konica Minolta boasts of a 50% market share in Industrial Printing segment, which is slowly growing. Our office products are also experiencing good growth and the colour production penetration is also happening. We currently have 16% market share in office products and 20% in colour product line. People are now opting for high-quality colour digital prints. Moreover, they print when they need it, which is boosting the digital printing market,” he adds.

Current targets…

“This year, we plan to add Rs 100 crore more. The first quarter has been quite good for us and we are expecting a double-digit growth again,” he says.

New product lines…

“We have recently launched new office products in Japan and there are a few more products in the pipeline,” he shares.

Konica Minolta has developed new coloring agents (color pigments) for Simitri HD+ toner (polymerized toner for low-temperature fixing), and eventually developed High-Chroma toner that achieves color reproduction areas close to those of RGB with even higher chroma and brightness. The High-Chroma toner delivers vivid and clear hues as shown on displays that could not be reproduced in conventional printing. “We have experienced good success with this product,” he adds.

Another product worth mentioning is AccurioPress C3080/C3080P. It delivers 2-sided banner printing, professional finishing, high productivity up to 80 ppm, real-time automated quality adjustments, excellent image quality and much more. “The AcccurioPress C3080 & C3080P high-speed digital printing press allows our customers to grow their business to expand into new markets and develop new revenue streams,” he adds.

“Besides, our office line of printers are making strong inroads in SMEs and mid-size organisations,” he adds.

Kuldeep also mentions about their new IQ-501 Intelligent Quality Optimizer, which takes colour consistency and registration accuracy to the next level. With highly automated image registration and colour control, a closed-loop system that constantly monitors and adjusts printed output, and automated color calibration and profiling, IQ-501 Intelligent Quality Optimizer delivers streamlined operator time, reduced print waste, and industry-leading productivity! “This is currently available on our AccurioPress C2070/C2070P, C3080/C3080P, C3070, C6100, C6085, 6120, 6136, and 6136P models,” he adds.

On MGI…

The MGI iFOIL S complements MGI JETvarnish 3DS with inline embossing and hot foil stamping through a 100 percent digital process. One can add foil with virtually no set up and at high speeds, but also provide the ability to offer a new, never-before-seen finish; the personalization of embossed hot foil stamping. “MGI spot UV is gaining attraction due to its ability to offer foiling opportunities in gold, silver and blue. We have 19 installations across the country. We are engaging with brand owners to make them aware of the high ticket value. It is used for wedding cards, justifying ROI for premium products,” he shares.

On digital printing growth in India…

“The print volumes are growing in digital printing as short-run offset printing jobs are now produced digitally. In the education segment, lot of books are now digitally produced. The black-and-white digital printing segment is dominated by publishers who print as per the demand,” tells Kuldeep.

“Besides, since Indian government is not allowing reconditioned products in India, it is a good sign. We are working with OEMs to penetrate the Indian market,” he says. “Then, there is a thrust on ‘Made in India’ and ‘Make in India,’ which has increased the demand for packaging. So, overall the printing industry is also growing.”

On asking about the kind of newer applications, Kuldeep mentions that people are looking to print on flexible media. “Our customers are always on the lookout for newer applications to increase their revenues. Colour digital printing is in great demand due to printing of wedding albums, photo albums, thank you cards, etc,” he adds as a matter of fact.

“We are expecting to see a great year and we wish to deliver what we are aiming. We are expecting a turnover of Rs 1000 cr by 2022-23,” concludes Kuldeep.
