Technologies for the future!

Drupa is the trendsetter for the printing and allied industries across the world. The industry waits for this show every four years to decide on their growth and areas of development for the next four years. Come May 3 and people from all over the world will converge at Dusseldorf to be a part of drupa 2012. What would be the trends this year? What will the exhibitors offer? What can the visitors expect from this fair? The questions which rack in our minds are numerous but we are sure, there would definitely be the three focus points – packaging, digital printing and workflows. Let’s see why.

The print runs are shrinking… perhaps packaging is the only sector where the demand has not come down… rather it is on the growth curve. Little wonder then that even newspaper machinery manufacturer like Goss would be showcasing packaging applications on their web machines. Exhibitors actually wait to launch their new technologies and products and visitors decide their expansion plans at this fair.

There has been a lot of buzz that digital printing will take over the conventional printing. It seems that the time is ripe… the limitations of low speed, high cost per print and the size are now being addressed very seriously. In the last 3-4 years, the speed of digital printing machines has dramatically gone up by 40-50 percent, while the price per print has also reduced by 30 percent; though the size limitation pertained. But, there are clear indications from the industry that size will not be a limitation any more. Many digital printing manufacturers are planning to showcase digital printing machines of B2 size (27.8” x 19.7”). Though these machines may be in the demo or prototype stage but nevertheless all leading players have been gearing up to make digital printing a better choice by offering variety of options to choose from.

Besides, printers have realised that workflow is the lifeline of any hardware and are willing to invest in the best of workflow solutions available. So, lot of interest would be shown at many stands offering these solutions.

But, this is just the tip of the iceberg…drupa will have much more to unveil. Last but not the least, sleeping elephant (since nine years) Benny Landa (inventor of Indigo digital press) is ready to present something more to the industry, in the form of ‘Landa Nanographic Printing process’, a game-changing technology for mainstream commercial, packaging and publishing markets. With new groundbreaking Landa Nanographic Printing presses, commercial printers, for the first time, would be able to have not only the versatility and short-run economics of digital printing, but also the low cost-per-page and high productivity of offset printing.

So, visit to drupa 2012 and witness where the print world tends to go technologically! We wish you all a very rewarding journey!
