The Avinashilingam Institute recently got two of its patents successfully awarded. The inventor Dr. TKS Lakshmi Priya, professor and Head, Printing Technology, School of Engineering, had conceived the idea to design and fabricate a Table-top Manual Die-Cutting Machine and the idea to design and make a Multipurpose Combo Package, in the year 2016-17. Subsequent to the making of a prototype of these, patents for both were filed in 2017. Now, both the patents have been granted by the government patenting authority.

The objective of these inventions is to promote an eco-friendly environment. The die-cutting machine is light-weight, does not consume electric power and is compact, thus making it suitable for operation by differently-abled and aged persons. This is meant to open the doors to a sustainable income source for the under-privileged persons, thereby promoting an inclusive society. The machine will be useful in cottage industries for small print jobs, sample-making and prototyping.

While, the package invention has been designed to have an aesthetic appearance comparable to luxury packages and at the same time, having the capability of multi-purpose usage as well as re-use functionality. The package can be used for bakery products, pharmaceuticals, jewellery and more.

As a next step, the School of Engineering is planning to either fabricate a few sample products and market the same or transfer the technology.
