offset alternative for producing up to B1-format
sheeted products. The company said that its M-
600 web printing units and new sheeter
technology would operate up to 30,000 sheets
per hour at drupa. The new sheeter, developed
exclusively in partnership with VITS, is claimed
to allow web printing on coated stocks with
standard sheetfed inks but without a dryer.
“This was a very tough audience that has to believe
in the press and be able to promote it with
confidence,” explains Jean Claude Pautrat, product
management director, Goss International. “Their
satisfaction with the demonstration was a key
milestone. We are excited about going to drupa
with another truly innovative Goss technology
that creates new opportunities for our customers.”
While blanket-to-blanket printing with the M-
600 units allows the entire sheet format of up
to 700mm x 1,020 mm (27.5" x 40") to be
utilised, eliminating the non-print gutters
required in the sheetfed perfecting process.
And without the requirement of a dryer, the
length of the new press is equal to that of
an eight-unit long perfector. In addition, these
units can be added for special colours
and varnishes.
According to Bob Brown, chief executive offcer,
Goss International, “Our innovations, such as
M-600, Uniliner, Sunday and FPS presses, as well
as the Digirail, Ecocool, Autoplate and Pacesetter
have been groundbreaking highlights of earlier
drupa shows and we will extend that record of
technology leadership this year and emphasise
how we are working with companies of all sizes

MAN Roland to offer new series ROLAND 50
Hall06, Stand D28
MAN Roland will be offering a new series
in format 36/52: the ROLAND 50,
which rounds out the company’s product
portfolio by providing the value added
printing strategy to customers. Printers can
get all the advantages in this format that they
have with larger machines: reduced costs,
with faster service and greater efficiency
plus increased sales with better quality and
a special applications.
The ROLAND 50 is derived from the ROLAND
200 (technology transfer). The cylinder width
of the ROLAND 50 is 200 mm less than that
of the ROLAND 200. The feeder and the
delivery have been adapted to the format
in order to achieve print plate compatibility
with most competitors. Available with 2, 4,
5 and 6 printing units, this series stands out
as the only sheet-fed offset press in this
format class to have the same design
technology and proven solutions
as MAN Roland’s large-format presses.
The sheet format, which is smaller than that
of the ROLAND 200, made it possible to
modify the design of the integrated delivery,
permitting a greater stack height: 700
millimeters! A delivery stack height of this
magnitude can hardly be found anywhere
in this format class, which is a special
advantage in view of the machine’s high
stock flexibility.
With the ROLAND 50, MAN Roland covers
all format classes in sheet-fed offset printing.

Xerox to take centre stage at drupa ’08 with new technology, services and solutions
Hall 8B, Stand A78
As the industry adapts to clients’ needs for
more environmentally sustainable
approaches to printing, Xerox is highlighting their
heritage as an environmental leader and as the
company of choice that helps print providers
“green” their offerings. To demonstrate their
decades-long commitment to sustainability,
the company will be integrating green aspects
into 3,500 square-meter booth at drupa ’08,
exhibiting eco-friendly materials, including
energy-saving lighting and re-usable
components; besides continuous feed portfolio.
Xerox will focus on three key areas, including:
accelerated innovation in technologies,
workflow solutions and business development
services; industry-leading partnerships and
profitable, productive applications; the
opportunities for the commercial print market
to become more eco-friendly through
technology, toner, inks and paper that can
reduce waste, decrease energy use and
preserve the world’s forests.
Among spotlighted innovations, the company
will feature their expanding portfolio of
continuous feed systems, including their
fastest-yet monochrome system, the Xerox
650/1300, which combines speed, ease-of-
use and workflow productivity into a powerful
device for service bureaus, data centers, and
commercial print providers. This can print up
to 1,308 duplex 8.5" x 11" images per minute.
The system uses dry toner, xerographic
imaging and flash-fusing technology – a
unique process that does not use heat or
pressure or make contact with the paper,
allowing the device to print on a wider array
of substrates than competitive systems.
At drupa, they will also demonstrate the speed
and flexibility of their 490/980 Colour Continuous
Feed Printing System, the fastest full-colour
toner-based continuous feed device. As per
the company’s press release, it can print at
600 dpi resolution and maintain top speed
when printing full colour or black and white,
regardless of the number of colours used or
the weight of the paper; with speed of 226
feet per minute (69 meters) or 493 images per
minute two-up, simplex on 8.5" x 11" paper, and
986 images per minute when in the duplex
configuration.
