PAMEX 2015 creates new record with unprecedented sales & deals!

Coming just a few months ahead of drupa and at the end of the year in 2015, the tenth edition of PAMEX held from December 9-12, 2015 at Bombay Exhibition Centre (BEC), Mumbai saw a record number of deals being finalised, setting the stage for what could be the biggest year for the Indian industry in 2016. Uddhav Thackeray innaugurating PAMEX’ 15 exhibitionSuccessfully and meticulously organised by All India Federation of Master Printers (AIFMP) and Print-Packaging.com (P) Ltd, PAMEX ’15 left an impeccable impression in the minds of exhibitors and visitors. While, the exhibitors were happy to meet good number of serious and quality visitors to the show, the visitors were impressed with a plethora of new launches and live demos, which helped them make purchase decisions at the show itself. The exhibition reported 20,441 unique trade visitors and featured 300+ exhibitors, 200+ running machines and 75+ product launches.

The inauguration…

The show was inaugurated by the chief guest, Uddhav Thackeray, president, Shiv Sena. Sharing his appreciation and pleasure in being invited to flag off the event, being a printer and publisher himself, he said, “It is an honour to inaugurate PAMEX and I thank AIFMP for inviting me. Printing industry is a very big industry and it deserves to get its due recognition.” Earlier, the chief guest had arrived to a tumultuous traditional Maharashtrian welcome. Sunil Garg, honorary general secretary-AIFMP, welcomed the dignitaries and exhibitors to PAMEX while Tushar Dhote, president, Mumbai Mudrak Sangh and co-chairman, PAMEX, highlighted how PAMEX 2015 was a step forward for printing shows. Shyamal Chandra Basu, president, AIFMP delivered the presidential address.

Wide display…

It was a digital feast at PAMEX 2015 as all the leading global players were there with product launches of their latest offerings. Leading the pack was HP with its Indigo 10000 Digital Press being displayed for the first time in the country. Konica Minolta launched JetVarnish 3DS and bizhubPRESS C1100/C1085. Adding to its popular SureColor series, EPSON introduced SureColor SC P9000, which is designed for the most exacting colour proofing applications and many others like in-shop branding.

Xerox presented the capability upgrade of Xerox Versant series 2100 and 80, where the kit can now print banner sizes (330 x 660 mm) in production mode. Ricoh, that was also co-partnering the event, displayed the all new Ricoh Pro C9100 series and the C7100x presses even as it also launched its RICOH MP W8140SP, an easy-to-use and cost effective MFP, tailored to cater highest level of detailing with high speed and productivity, suitable for engineering and architectural applications like maps and graphs.

EFI CEO, Guy Gecht was present himself to launch the MATAN QW inkjet printer, with ‘white ink’ feature, showcased for the first time in the region. Canon launched the muchawaited imagePRESS C10000VP.

Among other launches, Reprographics India launched the KIP 800 colour series printer. Newstech, dealing in products for offset processing and related activities, introduced a set of fountain solutions (Stabilat H-8000 and Unifount), low odour Uniwash, a CFC free solvent-based blanket and roller washes. Fully automated cross strapping machine for magazine and NTPJ-100 paper jogger table for both newspaper and magazine were some of the new launches at the show from Newstech.

Bodhi Professional Solutions (P) Ltd launched VeriPak 3D, a complete 3D visualisation tool for graphics professionals in the print, packaging and labeling industry. AGS introduced the PDF and print inspection software that is aimed at the packaging market and helps the converters to check their PDF files at the pre-press stage and during actual printing for various errors in the text as well as colour, thus avoiding a lot of rejections.

Provin Technos launched Foildex, a cold foil and UV cast and cure systems from Diversified Graphic Machinery (DGM). Proteck Machinery, distributor of postpress machines from Horizon, highlighted the RD 405 a rotary die-cutter and Smart Finishing Solution which has folding, stitching, binding and sheet processing system, to cater to the e-commerce and digital segments respectively.

In the sheetfed offset segment, Komori’s Enthrone press were running live demos at the Insight Communication’s stand while Provin Technos was promoting the Ryobi Indo Polygraph Machineries (P) Ltd, while several Indian made presses vied for the visitors’ attention.

Various types of Label presses were on offer in the stands of Standard Printer Providers, Provin Technos, Genius Flexo, Global Graphics, RK Label, S Kumar and the Malaysian exhibitor, Sen Label Machinery. Among the several companies offering corrugated box making machinery were Acme Machinery Company (P) Ltd, Acme Machinery India (P) Ltd, Associated Engineering Corporation, Flexography India Press, NBG Printographic Machinery Co (P) Ltd, Pack Link Industries, Sodhisons Mechanical Works, Suba Solutions Private Limited and Harbhajan Singh & Co.

Pratham Technologies, the manufacturer of paper folding machines, displayed its carton sorting system- Supersort. Beijing Daheng Image Vision Star JP420 carton inspection machine that detects defects in print, foil & emboss registration as well as in lamination at one go, was on display at the SL Kulkarni’s stand. The machine that was destined for the TCPL plant at Silvassa was inaugurated for demonstration by the MD of the company, Saket Kanoria. Autoprint showcased the recently launched Checkmate 50, the carton inspection machine along with Dion 450 NX, a four-colour nonwoven bag printing machine at their stand in the exhibition. Line O Matic Graphic Systems exhibited its latest and upgraded notebook making machines.

Chinese companies @ PAMEX

Chinese companies had a significant presence at PAMEX. While many of them were present with their distributors, over a dozen companies were also participating directly. Dongguan Hongming Machinery showcased its line of HM-ZD rigid box making machines which are available in fully automatic and semi automatic versions. Anco Development was promoting its automated bending, notching, lipping and straight cut machines. Zhejiang Ruian Dapen Printing Machinery displayed its touch screen system paper cutting machines. A leading multi colour offset press manufacturer of China, Jianxi Zhonjing Group was testing the waters with an information booth. Zhejiang Salili Machinery presented its line of package craft solution and gift box binding machines. Dongguan Tengfeng Machinery Co Ltd, was displaying a high quality rigid box making machine. Haiyan Huada Ink Chemical Co Ltd had displayed its range of Offset and UV inks and Shenzhen Mansion Technology Limited was promoting its range of adhesives and consumables.

Deals finalised…

The highlight of the exhibition was the record number of sales, deals and business happening on the grounds of BEC. To name a few, Autoprint Machinery Manufacturers Ltd, Insight Communications, Anil Agencies, Pratham Technologies (P) Ltd, Stoosa, Ample Graphics (P) Ltd and Monotech Systems Ltd closed several deals at the event. RICOH sold 27 units to customers from all over India. Canon received the order of its all new imagePRESS C10000VP and Oce PlotWave 500 from the Mumbai-based Bharat Copy Centre (P) Ltd.

Insight Communications & Print Solution India (P) Ltd. sold Komori Enthrone 429 to Adinath Print Services, Mumbai on the first day itself. By the end of the show it had closed orders for six Komori presses and three Kodak CtP plate setters. Provin Technos (P) Ltd, reported orders for three Ryobi series presses.

S Kumar Multi Products Pvt Ltd sold Zonten LRY-330/450 stacked flexographic press to four printers – Printotech, Ludhiana; Silvasa Flexible, Vapi (Gujarat); Dinsin Labels Pvt Ltd, Mumbai; and Mamta Graphics, Pune.

The German company MBO’s subsidiary Herzog+Heymann sold M8.40 outster insert systems to Hyderabad-based pharma packaging firm Temple Packaging during the show.

Grafica Flextronica closed orders for two cylinder press with inline UV and complete screen making set up, six sets of Nano Print with full screen making set up and UV, and nine Nano Print Plus with screen making set up at the exhibition.

Kunal Enterprises announced its new partnership with Toppan Printing, Japan and showcased its range of products including the EP-Pak. APL Machinery announced Vishal Graphics as its partner for catering to the western market and were seen together promoting their LED UV lamps at the show. The most exciting announcement for the industry was the setting up of Indian JV- Zhongke India (P) Ltd, by the leading Chinese company and their display of complete range of equipment including two Case Makers, Rigid Box Maker and a lamination and grooving machine.

Exhibitors’ share…

The heavy footfall, that too of quality visitors, was the imperative element behind the success of the show. “The quality of crowd has been encouraging. The good number of footfalls on week days proved that we had very serious customers,” said CN Ashok, Autoprint Machinery Manufacturers. “We were very excited with the overall footfalls and arrangement of PAMEX ’15. Participation in such strategic expo would enhance our presence in the Indian phrama product packaging market,” shared Dirk Stuhmeir, MD, Herzog+Heymann.

EFI, exhibiting at PAMEX for the first time, found a very positive reflection from potential trade visitors at the show. “I see a stimulating economy in the Indian market for which we are making our investment at the utmost level,” said Stephen Green, vice president, Asia Pacific, EFI.

HP India, which had been the knowledge partner of PAMEX promotional roadshows, hosted a knowledge session for cosmetics brand owners and agencies at its stand, showcasing the possibilities in labels and packaging using HP digital printing technology. “PAMEX was a very special show for us in a lot of ways and we displayed the star of our portfolio – Indigo 10000 using the show platform for the very first time,” said Bhavna Saluja of HP. “We’ve had a wonderful show and the response has been great!”

Narendra P of Pragati Offset (P) Ltd, Telangana attended the show as a visitor. “Seeing is believing! This is what I would say about this PAMEX edition. I see all new developments in the printing and packaging segments. The range of box-making machines on display is tremendous. I’m totally impressed,” he shared.

T Sivaraj of Vilvram Graphic Traders, Karur, another visitor at the show was very impressed with the arrangements. “Firstly, I would like to appreciate the organisers for such a wonderful show with an excellent arrangement. The showcase of an array of advanced (digital) printing machines is simply amazing,” he said.

Conference….

A one-day International Technology Conference, organised by Mumbai Mudrak Sangh (MMS) was held concurrently with the second day of the exhibition. The event was attended by more than two hundred delegates from the industry.

On a concluding note…

“The enormous success of PAMEX 2015 will act as the strong base for the next edition of the show, where people will get to see more from the Indian printing industry. The unprecedented amount of sales that has happened at this edition of the event pictures the rising graph of the industry. RICOH reveals complete printing portfolio

A newly launched monochrome MFP (multi-function printer), digital full colour production presses, a large-format Latex printer… a complete gamut of printing machines packed the stall of RICOH India at PAMEX 2015. When inquired about new among them, Umang Singhal, national business & marketing manager, Production Printing, RICOH India, revealed that the RICOH MP W8140SP is the fresh arrival in the Indian market, premiering at the show. “This new easy-to-use and cost effective MFP has been tailored to cater highest level of detailing with high speed and productivity, suitable for engineering and architectural applications like maps and graphs,” he explained.

The company also showcased its largeformat Latex printer—RICOH Pro L4160, which is an ideal machine for signage and display graphics. Hugely versatile, this Latex printer is featured with RICOH Gen 5 printheads that can create a droplet as small as 4 pcl, resulting in smoother colour gradation.

Umang explained that RICOH C7100, which pulled a huge crowd on the show, is specially equipped with fifth station to provide an additional clear and white toner in addition to the standard CMYK, suitable for printing all sorts including package prints. At PAMEX, the company sold 27 units: Three units in the East (two colour mid-production machines, one 5100); Five units in the North (two 8100 monochrome machines, one 9110s, one 5100s, one high-production colour 9100); Seventeen units in the South (sixteen 8100 monochrome machines, one colour 5100s); and Two units in West (one five-colour 7100x, one colour 9110s). The collectively total of the deal was worth Rs 7.5 crore! This is indeed one of the milestones RICOH India has ever made in a trade expo.

Konica Minolta Unveils MGI JETvarnish 3DS with iFOIL

Konica Minolta Business Solutions India Pvt Ltd launched JETvarnish 3DS with iFoil inline digital foiling module to help printers expand their services to include new amazing spot UV and 3D tactile varnishing capabilities. The JETvarnish 3DS takes digital spot UV coating to a new dimension, featuring increased output for flat spot UV jobs and elegant 3D raised effects. SRK Technology redefines packaging solutions at PAMEX 2015

Presenting a whole gamut of what all required in highend finishing solutions for packaging, New Delhi-based SRK Technology presented its dexterity during the recent PAMEX 2015 organised at BMC in Mumbai. The company presented its ever popular technologies of automatic die-cutting, auto stamping, Automatic Lamination(both solvent free & water-base glue, folder gluing, window patching, among others. Pointing at the newly unpacked imagePRESS, Puneet Datta, director, PPP Group, Canon India, said, “The professional printing industry is evolving at a fast pace and technological innovations are key driving factor to run parallel with the market demands and trends. As keeping pace with our customers’ evolving preferences, we continuously innovate and bring in versatility to our product offering.” He added that imagePRESS C10000VP is Canon’s new endeavour to tap the country’s ever expanding professional printing segment while ‘continuing legacy’ of developing best of the best technology in the best product form.

Visitors made a beeline for newly launched 3D printers @ Monotech

At PAMEX ’15, visitors showed a lot of interest at the stall of Monotech Systems Ltd, where 3D printers were on show. “We have a range of 3D printers, from entry-level to midrange level,” told Gurvinder Singh, director (sales & marketing), Monotech Systems Ltd. Another new crowd puller at the show was JetSci variable digital printer with a new physical platform.

And, it’s not just digital that Monotech is catering to, it has products for offset segment too. “Digital printers are now moving towards offset while offset printers are moving towards digital. Monotech has an advantage because it deals in both offset and digital machines. Our tie-up with Shinohara offset machines is a step in this direction,” he added. In this backdrop, the company was showcasing laser die-cutter from Shinohara, for which there were many inquiries.

Infact, the stall of Monotech was divided into two – one for the digital enhancement products like Scodix, cutter, creasing and laser die-cutting solutions and another for the digital printing machines and both the segments were pulling good crowds.

Xerox India launches banner printing option in Versant 2100 and Versant 80

Xerox India launched banner printing option in Versant 2100 and Versant 80 at PAMEX. Other devices like Colour 1000i Press with Gold, Silver and Clear Options and Xerox Colour C70, were showcased. The company also showcased its FreeFlow Core workflow solution for the first time in the country.

Speaking at the event, Balaji Rajagopalan, executive director, Technology, Channels & International Distributor Operations, Xerox India said, “We launched the banner printing capabilities in the Versant 2100 and Versant 80 and we believe that this option will further add a lot of value to our customers. This feature was well appreciated by customers and print providers at PAMEX. We also showcased the Freeflow Core workflow solutions for the first time in the country. Its automation toolset will remove costly manual prepress steps, reducing your costs and time it takes to get jobs through your shop. It will enable customers to free up resources from repetitive tasks and move them to higher value jobs. We also showcased two other key digital presses – ColourPress 1000i with Gold, Silver and Clear Options and Colour C70”

He further added, “We received a great response at PAMEX this year and had the privilege of meeting over 1000 customers and prospects on-ground. All the devices showcased were launched this year and they have performed exceptionally well in the market. We have already installed more than 100 units of C60/70 alone in 2015 and hope to replicate the success with all our other devices. We are already in the process of closing some deals soon. Customers, partners and print providers were excited to see the Colour Press 1000i and its exciting features. This device is the first in the industry to offer Pantone Metallic Gold or Silver Dry Ink at rated speed in addition to Clear Dry Ink which enables highlighting specific areas and also gives a raised impact with up to 7 layers.” This opens the door for new revenues by migrating lucrative foil stamping applications, such as invitations, certificates and business cards, to short-run, high-value digital production.

Multi-pass printing with these specialty dry inks adds an extra textural/dimensional feel and “pop” to documents for attention grabbing effects on a wide range of applications. Also present at the event was Raju GVSR, newly appointed associate director and head, Production Systems Group at Xerox India. He said, “PAMEX 2015 was a huge success for us. We showcased our key digital presses launched this year and we were happy to see the excitement showcased across partners to customers. Xerox has always been strong in the digital printing segment and has devices to cater to almost all categories of digital printing. With this strength, we gear up for 2016 with some more exciting product launches that will revolutionise the digital printing market.”

HP offers high-value commercial, labels and packaging solutions

At PAMEX 2015, HP showcased its Exhibitions flagship HP Indigo 10000 Digital Press along with other printers and presses from its Indigo, Latex and DesignJet portfolio. The company also planned a slew of activities to engage and educate the Print Service Providers (PSPs) involved in general commercial printing and labels & packaging helping them explore the immense possibilities with HP’s digital print technology and provide increased value to their end customers through unique application and improved automation. Visitors also had the opportunity to see the many high-quality applications achievable with HP’s innovative Indigo printing technology, as well as the numerous production benefits of digital printing at the HP booth, the largest booth at PAMEX 2015 covering 500 sq m Area.

HP Indigo 10000 Digital Press is a B2/750 mm (long side edge) press. The press has over 200 units installed in 35 countries including India and maintains all the capabilities distinct to the HP Indigo portfolio in a B2 format, to expand digital printing capabilities into previously traditional offset markets, providing high value applications with the widest variety of substrates and unmatched print quality, including spot colours, photo inks and white. Latest enhancements for the HP Indigo 10000 include additional ElectroInk inks, including white, light cyan, light magenta and spot colours; and HP Indigo Enhanced Productivity Mode (EPM), which eliminates black via three-colour printing and enables an increase in colour printing output by 33 percent. About 25 percent of pages printed on HP Indigo 10000 presses are now said to be done so using EPM.

Also on display, the HP Indigo 7800 Digital Press helps PSPs manage colour easily, with automated colour management aided by an in-line spectrophotometer, eliminating the need for manual colour manipulations. Media fingerprinting, 3D colour calibration, spot colour refinement and other advanced colour management tools ensure accurate colour matching on a variety of substrates, colour consistency across presses and sites.

Along with the two Indigo presses, HP also showcased the HP Latex 360 Printer, HP DesignJet T3500 production MFP and HP DesignJet D5800 production printer. HP Latex 360 printer powered by third-generation, water-based HP Latex ink technology prints up to 978 sq ft/hr (91 sq m/hr) and increases application versatility, from a wide range of flexible coated and uncoated materials including textiles and double-sided banners.

Condot Systems turns up with turnkey solutions for variable data printing

Those in grim pursuit of innovative technologies for variable data printing must go to Condot Systems, one of the leading providers of unmatched solutions for the same. The company boasts of its widely acclaimed machineries engineered for product identification market, marking and batch coding, variable data printing, transport and vision systems, among which some were put up attractively on display at the recent PAMEX 2015 in Mumbai. Ever since its inception, Condot Systems has marked its footprints spreading all across the globe over the last two decades. “Our product portfolio consists of variable printing machines and accessories like integration kits as well as end-to-end solutions for vacuum mailing tables, desktop printer conveyors and feeders,” mentioned Vijay Kamat, GM-marketing, Condot Systems Pvt Ltd.

At the PAMEX 2015, Condot Systems demonstrated its range of products, showing the state-of-theart technologies and pulling a huge crowd to the technical competencies of the products. “Profiles of our customers are quite varied as we cater our products and services to diverse industrial clusters.
