Kodak’s workflow, digital print, and prepress announcements focus on business growth at Graph Expo 2011

At recently concluded Graph Expo 2011, Kodak highlighted its latest products and solutions for graphic communications professionals as well as its steadfast commitment to customer success. With robust solutions for commercial and transactional printers, publishers, and packaging professionals, the company offered one of the broadest, most integrated portfolios in the graphic communications industry.

Kodak’s booth included a variety of application stations, along with an area dedicated to the sustainability benefits of the Kodak product portfolio. The centerpiece of the booth was the Kodak NexPress photo platform with Print Genius, which is designed for the printing of high-quality photo products such as photo books, calendars, greeting cards, posters, and magnets. The NexPress platform delivers prints with high fidelity, high saturation, and brilliant colours—making it an ideal option for photo specialty printers, professional photo labs, commercial printers, and other customers looking to expand their portfolio. For hybrid offset printing applications, the Kodak Prosper S20 imprinting system with CMYK was on display as a technology demonstration in the Adphos/GSS booth. It features breakthrough speeds of up to 2,000 fpm/610 mpm at 600 x 300 dpi to deliver fast, offset-class variable data applications, produced inline with web offset presses and finishing equipment. The Kodak Prosper S10 imprinting system with CMYK was also on display in the Adphos booth. A number of new Kodak Versamark printing systems that feature next generation imaging technology were announced at the show, targeted at transactional, direct mail, and short-run newspapers applications.

For printers and publishers looking to increase their prepress efficiency and reduce their environmental footprint, Kodak introduced a new, advanced chemistry system for processing its Electra XD thermal plates. The new Kodak 400 xLo chemistry system consists of Kodak 400 xLo plate solution and 400R xLo plate replenisher, and is designed to offer an extended life and increased plate throughput with a significant reduction in chemistry usage. Kodak also featured several new developments in workflow at its booth, announcing significant productivity enhancements for Kodak Prinergy workflow systems—both Prinergy Connect and Prinergy Evo workflow—as well as Kodak Preps imposition software and Kodak Colorflow software. Each of these products extends its core functionality and usability around automation and integration, and reaches new customers through the expansion of third-party support.

MarketMover Digital Diagnostic Services experts provided an objective assessment of the printer’s core business and new service offerings, including evaluating and benchmarking capabilities and skills, analyzing workflow efficiencies, interviewing clients, and helping to develop business growth strategies. Debuting at the show, Kodak MarketMover Managed Campaign Services, a suite of services designed to give print service providers the necessary support to bring to market and sell data-driven, multi-channel direct marketing campaigns for their clients. Customers using these new services will have access to a team of experts as part of Kodak Marketmover Business Advantage Solutions to provide marketing-related consulting and customized Kodak solutions. Attendees visiting the Kodak booth also found the opportunity to listen in on the popular K-Zone panel discussions, with focus on Kodak customers speaking about their experiences using Kodak products for business.

Demonstrating Finch digital and performance inkjet papers

Finch Paper’s unique digital and inkjet products and services are driving business from all corners of the digital and inkjet output world. HP, Konica Minolta, and Ricoh are three manufacturers who invited Finch to run its papers on systems the companies were demonstrating at Graph Expo this year in Chicago.

HP’s booths featured Finch Fine id, a specially-engineered line for Indigo that has earned Finch the highest ratings possible through RIT’s HP Indigo certification programme, which evaluates substrate compatibility with HP Indigo presses. At the show, Finch paper ran on the HP Indigo 7500. Konica Minolta’s booth featured Finch Fine Color Copy on their bizhub C7000, while Ricoh showed Finch Inkjet PI on the InfoPrint 5000 GP platform. “Finch Paper’s ability to optimize paper formulation for every machine, its particular environment, and job parameters such as budget; is making manufacturers and customers take note,” commented Connie Harrison, a veteran digital paper product expert and manager of digital business development at Finch Paper adding that manufacturers are impressed with Finch Paper’s ability to showcase their machines’ maximum capabilities. “With possession of our paper from tree to delivery, we have unparalleled control and opportunity to modify everything from formulation to price and turnaround time, and many other variables, depending on customer requirements. Everyone therefore gets to showcase their systems and production capabilities to their greatest advantage,” she explained.

Strategic synergy between Ricoh India and Redington

In the wake of Ricoh’s outstanding performance in the production printing segment in Indian market, Ricoh India Limited, a subsidiary of Japan-based Ricoh Company Limited, recently announced its strategic tie up with Redington (India) Ltd as their value added channel partner for their production printing products. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed up at Ricoh’s new office premises in New Delhi between Tetsuya Takano, managing director and chief executive officer, Ricoh India Ltd and Kasturi Rangan, president (non-IT product business) of Redington (India) Ltd.

“Globally, Ricoh strives to offer products, solutions and services that are innovative, have strong customer focus and offer true value for money. Our production printing solutions have delighted consumers immensely due to quality, efficiency, short turnaround time and prompt after-sales service. Within a short span, we have garnered over 33 percent market share in this segment in India. Our tie up with Redington has been very strategic as today Ricoh foresees exponential growth in this segment. Redington, which is among the largest, supply chain solution providers to over 75 leading manufacturers of information technology, telecom, lifestyle and consumer electronics products, world wide, will now help us get a larger and better footprint to showcase our new products portfolio. The synergy between Ricoh and Redington will pave new ways in various new segments including commercial printing, photo labs, advertising agencies and pre-press houses for the production printing business,” commented Tetsuya Takano, speaking on this significant tie-up.

Xerox’s new offerings

-to give small businesses a ‘big business’ edge

To help small and medium businesses (SMBs) create professional-looking documents in-house without busting budgets, Xerox India recently launched a new range of entry level to mid segment A4 print devices in colour. This new range of printers from Xerox comes in a small form factor and offering simplicity and dependability especially when office space is at a premium for individual users and small work teams.

While Xerox Phaser 3010/3040 and Workcenter 3045 are targeted at personal to SMB’s and for large enterprise where small size is a requirement, Xerox Phaser 6000 and Phaser 6010 colour printers are for SMB’s to create affordable and impactful colour documents. The company introduced the cutting edge Hi-Q LED technology for the first time in entry level printers. All the above products are ENERGY STAR qualified.

“Economies and Businesses worldwide is in the process of consolidation and are looking to do more with less. This is where these new devices fit in; they help reduce costs with extended capacity cartridges, their small size and light weight makes them easy to ship, relocate and manage in a small workspace with the benefit to workforce working remotely. Additionally, these new colour products give SMBs an affordable and easy way to create the same impactful colour documents as larger enterprises,” commented Konstantin Klein, MD, Xerox India.

Pitney Bowes launches ‘Rival’ inserting system in India

Along with other global markets, Pitney Bowes Inc recently launched the Rival productivity series inserting system (RPS) in India. This product will provide mid-volume transactional mailers, a powerful and cost-efficient solution, enabling and facilitating high-value customer communications. The compact, ergonomic design of the system is built with the high-end technology similar to Pitney Bowes Productivity Series mail finishing platform to help deliver increased flexibility and reliability across a wide range of applications in for low investment and high output inserting solution.

According to KM Nanaiah, managing director, Pitney Bowes India, “The new RPS is made simultaneously available in India and globally to the markets like US, Japan, etc. This product has been launched as per the huge response and customer’s feedback from the Indian market. The product is designed to serve the need for a small footprint, high performance inserting system, which is well-suited for mid-volume multiple jobs.”

The Rival inserting system helps deliver consistent productivity during peak mail cycles while processing variable page documents at speeds up to 12,000 cycles per hour. The system’s highly integrated control and advanced document scanning features help track each mail piece for accurate processing. To help optimize productivity, the Rival system includes features that deliver simple and efficient processing. An automated fold capability helps ensure accurate fold set-up and job changeover while an intuitive user interface allows operators to quickly set-up and recall multiple jobs. The system also includes a compact vacuum sheet feeder with an extended capacity hopper.
