The future of print is promising!

Covid-19 had severely affected the print media (magazines and newspaper industry) but it is noteworthy that the circulation figures have rebounded to pre-pandemic levels and advertising revenue has also increased significantly. According to a report, in 2022, the print media industry in India witnessed an impressive surge in revenue, amounting to INR 250 billion, which is 10% increase compared to the previous year. Bsides, the revenue distribution within the print media industry in 2022 included 67% revenue from advertising and 33 % revenue from circulation. More than 150,000 advertisers and 185,000 companies utilized print as a medium, indicating a notable increase from 140,000 advertisers and 170,000 companies in 2020.

The print media industry is growing, more so in language and regional media segments. No wonder then that we may witness a double-digit growth, particularly in tier 2 and tier 3 cities in India. With an expanding base of advertisers, strong growth potential, and a diverse range of categories witnessing increased ad volumes, the future certainly looks promising.

The recently held PAMEX 2023 featured more than 450 exhibitors, a largest gamut of live running machines and innovative products & solutions from the industry. Printers are definitely upgrading and diversifying, with multiple deals signed at the show. Automation was the buzzword at PAMEX, with host of exhibitors showcasing machines, equipments and software solutions to automate the processes. Digital printing machines for packaging and book printing were quite popular with the visitors too. The enthusiasm amongst the exhibitors and visitors signalled that the industry is getting back to normal and it is time for new investments.

Seeing the growth in packaging, IPAMA is set to organise IntraPac in March 2024, an exclusive exhibition for the packaging industry. While, PrintExpo  one of South Indias popular and biggest trade shows focusing on the printing,packaging, signage and advertising segment, will now be organised by Messe Frankfurt India in collaboration with Showcase Trade Fairs and Business Media.
