Paper Plus, a show of paper machine manufacturers and related fields was held at Chennai Trade Centre from November 7-9, 2014.

Some of the exhibitors at the show included DS Pulp & Paper Machinery Pvt Ltd, manufacturers of pulpers, pulp thickners, rewinders, formers and centri cleaners for paper mills machineries. Their clients are paper mills who manufacture Kraft, Duplex Boards and Multi Layer Papers.

While, EOC Polymers India Private Limited, Haryana, offered Paper and Board Latex with high ink holdout properties, compatible with common coating ingredients. Alliance International, New Delhi are the distributors for Dan Dong Shenxing (Coated Dryers, Casted Yankees, Casted Press Rolls, Drum Pulper, High Pressure Screens), Xuzhou Industrial Fabrics Factory (Paper Making Felts, Forming Fabrics, Screen Baskets & Plates), Zhengda Hi-tech (manufacturing, development and application of paper manufacture air system) and King General Machinery, Inc. (Rotary High Speed Computerised Sheeting Machine). They also deal in complete paper manufacturing machines, both new and old.

Senthil Papers And Boards Private Limited, Tamil Nadu manufactures Brown Grade (Kraft Liner Board), Duplex Grade (Uncoated, Coated – Grey Back, White Back, Food & Beverage (Cupstock), Solid Board (Chip Boards) and White Grade (Art, Folding Box, Green Art, Green Folding Box, Solid Bleached Boards). The 3rd Technical Conference on Pulp, Paper and Allied Industries was also held concurrently, with presentations in three sessions: Indian Paper Industry, Recycled Fibres and Latest Technologies for Processing Recycled Fibres; Deinking and Measurement techniques in Recycled Fibre; and Recycling of Water and Solid Wastes for Pollution Prevention by scientists and engineers of eminence from paper mills and machinery manufacturers from India and abroad.

In the keynote address, R Krishnaswamy, CMD, Sripathi Paper and Boards Pvt Ltd, talking about ‘Recycled Paper in India at Crossroads’, described the various challenges faced by the Industry. Raw materials issue is one of the critical problems, about four million tonnes of waste paper is being imported now, and about 95 percent of domestic collection of waste paper is in the hands of unorganised sector.

Other issues are lack of skilled manpower, critical expense return and lack of access to equity funds. While, Vijay Gupta, managing director, Dalei Papers SA, Singapore told the world paper recycling champions are from Western Europe and Japan. “In India, we should aim to be the champion recycler—efficient collection starting with the major urban and industrial centres is a good first step.
