Despite knowing the fact, many entrepreneurs willingly or unwillingly dare to assume this path to attain their goals and finally face difficulties even to retain their current status of business. This phenomenon can be observed in almost every segment of the industry especially involving small and medium level establishments.
This sort of approach neither help the customers nor the printer himself who in any way becomes the loser as he could not optimally earn from the resources without utilising their strengths in a systematic order. During routine visits to several presses in India, I observed that many times machines have to be kept idle owing to obstructions in smooth workflow generally happening because of not adopting due process in haste to finish the jobs.
Like any other production activities, in print and publishing industry, a product has to undergo certain processing methodology and avoiding proper manner in handling jobs may hamper quality considerably. If we make a thorough study of printing houses in India, the majority of such units shall be seen performing different stages of production and somehow meeting the deadline by just part supplying the jobs and breaking the runs. Persistent supply is missing from their operations despite having invested wisely in efficient machinery, skilled manpower and adequate working space.
In the present scenario of globalization facilitated with liberalized economic policies, there are immense potential to cater overseas markets apart from serving domestic customers. Indian printers have obvious advantage over printers in the western countries regarding labour cost. Resultantly, they can effectively compete international players by focusing on ensuring improve the quality of their services. However, they shall have to do away with ‘feeble excuse’ regarding delayed delivery of the jobs, giving supply in partly manner, substandard print or binding quality etc.
Now when the markets globally are marking effective recovery from years-long slowdown, it’s golden opportunity for all to start with a bang, removing all those obstacles and practices which impair the output of any unit of your establishments. It should be kept in mind that all links in the printing process are almost equally important and any ‘shortcut’ can cause to wipe out the very positive impacts of your endeavours. So, along with all other aspects of the operations, printers shall have to ensure that all possible processes being followed persistently up to the delivery of the finished jobs. Adopting this sort of inclusive and balanced approach, one can emphatically hope to reach the optimum level in business with increased production efficiency, while making the valued customers happy who have become rather quality and time conscious.
