Tiruchirapalli (Tiruchi/ Trichy for short), basically a temple city famous for ageless Rock Fort Temple, grew simultaneously as an education centre, and gradually has fit seamlessly into the digital renaissance. This is a pointer to Tier-2 cities growing up into printing hubs like Tiruchi (Agriculture), Madurai (temple and jasmine flowers), Erode (textiles), Salem (mangoes), Tirupur (readymade garments), Coimbatore (textile machinery & industrial products), Sivakasi (crackers/match boxes), Tuticorin (pearls), to name a few.

D Ramalingam has seen the Andar Street in Tiruchy developing into a business hub from being a lawyers’ street (during freedom struggle and post independence days). Here, he briefs about one such digital service provider – Print Factory. KP Balaji’s tryst with digital printing happened by chance. The interim vacation after Higher Secondary examination drew him to DTP. After finishing commerce graduation and MBA, he decided to be an entrepreneur in digital printing. He partnered with a longstanding Xeroxoriented printer by name ‘Prince and Company’. Prince is in business since 22 years with two branches in Tiruchi, engaged in digital copying, printing and scanning. The company started with Xerox DC12, grew with DC5252, DC 5000 and now (six months back) acquired iGen 4 Diamond with Free Flow Server. For iGen operations, the company has started a new division – Print Factory – jointly held by Rajarajan (Prince and Company), Arun (Annai Arts) and Balaji (AB Colours). On asking about this unique name, Balaji replied, “We want to grow into a factory of printing jobs.” More recently, they did promotional jobs for Apollo Hospitals and Samsung with personalised VDP. “Such kind of jobs would multiply as we have the wherewithal. With specially imaging software for doing Micro Text, security applications and Xmpie’s uDirect Studio software for variable data and image personalisation applications, we shall carve a niche market in Southern India,” said the confident Balaji.

Their applications include high quality, short run digital prints, brochures, ID cards, photo books, certificates, collaterals, etc. “We have excellent infrastructure to give committed delivery of prints up to 14” X 26”, 350 GSM and wide range of specialty and synthetic media and regular boards and finished products anywhere in South India,” told Balaji.

According to G Ravishankar of UR Marketing Company, Xerox Production Partner, “Print Factory is one company which has acquired iGen Diamond Edition with purpose. They make use of the full potential of machine capabilities.”
