The U.S. Government Publishing Office (GPO) has acquired six new ink jet presses as a part of its ongoing Plant Operations modernization efforts. The digital presses will streamline production and allow the agency to automate the workflow from the start of a project to final publication. Along with providing high-speed automated printing, these digital print machines also offer real-time data for operational accountability.
GPO has acquired six Océ ColorStream 6000 inkjet presses offers high speed, high quality full colour inkjet printers with a speed of 157 to 417 feet per minute for 344 up to 1818 letter images per minute. Through its unique combination of efficiency, flexibility and quality this colour inkjet printer simplifies and accelerates the transition from monochrome to full-colour or even 5 or 6 colours. The Océ DigiDot multilevel dot modulation produces crisp details and smooth halftones with a perceived quality of 1200 dpi. The Océ ColorStream 6000 inkjet press offers productivity and flexibility for high-speed colour and monochrome production of transaction, transPromo, direct mail, book and manual applications with the reliability, print quality and media range associated with the DigiDot technology.
These inkjet presses replace more than 30-year-old outdated equipment. The new presses are faster, more reliable, and more cost-efficient than the previous equipment. The agency will also reduce its paper waste, which will drop to as low as 2%, with the implementation of the new inkjet presses.

The first project completed using the new inkjet presses was the production of the Senate and House Calendars. GPO will use the presses to produce Legislative Branch publications such as the Congressional Record, Federal Register, Calendars, Bills, Federal Budgets, and U.S. Codes, as well as some Executive Branch publications. The new presses provide various customization features such as variable data.
