-New Focus of Rave Packaging on rigid boxes for phones, shoes, liquor and what not industries. Rave Packaging churns out packaging jobs for prestigious clients like V-John, pharmaceutical companies like Ranbaxy, mobile companies, sweet shops, shoes and perfume companies. “We are even exporting shoe-boxes to an Italian shoe company,” told Shiv (energetic son of the managing director Rakesh Bhatnagar), COO, Rave Packaging, the packaging unit of Rave Scans Pvt Ltd, which initiated their packaging division in December 2013 and began operations in February this year.

Focusing on rigid boxes…
“We are not focusing on monocartons, we focus on rigid boxes (two-colour, three-colour and four-colour) for phones, shoes and liquor industry,” he told. “We keep a buffer stock for a few clients as procurement of raw material is not easy. But, warehousing is also an issue as it requires lot of space,” told Shiv as a matter of fact. Though their present unit is housed in 3,400 sq yard space for packaging unit as well as 2,400 sq yard space for printing unit, they are also eyeing new space in Faridabad for their future plans.

Value-addition…
For value-addition, the company uses Sakurai screen printing machine, which not only makes the print attractive but also difficult for piracy. They offer a full-fledged packaging solution, right from designing to the finished product. Though, most of the clients supply their own artworks.

Packaging unit…
Their packaging unit houses Bobst’s VisionFold folder/gluer and NovaCut flatbed die-cutter and the star performer Emmeci MC-2004 MEB. The MC-2004 MEB is a revolutionary mechatronic automatic line for the production of rigid set-up boxes, designed to obtain automatically, in addition to the typical parallelepiped box-shaped, even boxes of particular polyhedric shape, normally produced manually.

Printing unit…
Their unit in Gurgaon also houses Kodak CtP for pre-press, multiple Heidelberg offset machines and fully equipped post press facility. The set-up is a one-stop shop with all equipments for pre-press, press and post press. “We work round the clock. We have eight machines for book production which are optimally working,” Shiv says. “But, gradually we may leave low margin low volume jobs to make more room for packaging production.”

Quality control measures…
Talking about the quality control measures, Shiv informed that they have a wellequipped QC lab where all substrates go for prescribed tests prior to bulk printing.

Tryst with technology…
To keep himself abreast with the latest technologies, Shiv travels to international packaging fairs like Interpack. Though, he would like to participate in fairs like Beauty World, Shoes fair and Photography fairs.

Future plans…
With a Rs 100 cr turnover last year, Rave India is surely riding high. On asking about their targets, Bhavnesh Kumar, director, Rave India (printing unit of Rave Scan Pvt Ltd) replied, “We have a Rs 4 cr target per month for packaging unit; it might not be feasible this year. But, our one year target is Rs 150 cr.”
