Balaji Rajagopalan, Executive Director, Technology, Channels & International Business, Xerox India was quite enthusiastic about their Iridesse Production Press launched at PrintExpo held recently in Chennai. On the sidelines of the Exhibition, D. Ramalingam (DR) from Print & Publishing interacted with Balaji Rajagopalan (BR). Here is a brief.

DR: As usual, the Xerox stand is there right in front of the entrance?

BR: Yes, that is our privileged position that has given quite a visibility.

DR: Your new launch is drawing a lot of crowd.

BR: It is our brand new Iridesse Production Press. We are proud of it. After its first launch in New York, US this is the second launch in the world.

DR: This time we see a lot of A4 Xerox machines. Any reason?

BR: Yes, you are right. It is the return of A4 space. We have had A4 core copier, On Demand Printer and book printing which have proved their worth in the market.

At Xerox, we are for innovation and niche market.

DR: With that concept, what do you offer in Iridesse?

BR: We offer entirely a new technology. It has workflow system. There are 6 units, 4 for CMYK plus 2 units for coating. In this new concept, we are the only one having dry units. These dry ink units bring out true metallic colours, gold and silver finishes much brighter than in wet inks. Besides, it has a higher speed too.

DR: Can you tell us something about other Xerox machines you have showcased here?

BR: AltaLink is a Multi Color Function Printer, D110 is monochrome, C70 a first entry color printer, Versant 180 is a Mid-Production Color Press with ACQS (Automatic Color Quality Suite), Versant 3100 is higher color printer with greater media latitude. Versant 180 was shown for the first time here with ACQS.

DR: How did you select particular machines to be showcased here?

BR: Well, a lot of planning has gone into it. We did a survey about different usages.

DR: As a regular in PrintExpo, you must have been successful in this part of the country?

BR: Indeed, we are. When these organisers planned for a Chennai show, we supported them knowing the market in the South. Especially for those from down South Chennai is a place nearer and known place to them. They get opportunities to see and select new products, machineries and equipments nearer to them than travelling too far. We exhibit here in PrintExpo from the beginning. This is the 10th year.

DR: How do you look to the future?

BR: The future is in Inkjet Printing. Xerox may go into it.
