W+D acquires Halm Industries Mailing solutions

Winkler+Dünnebier GmbH (W+D), a Barry-Wehmiller company, is strengthening its position as a long-term technology and service-solutions partner for the envelope and printed mail market with the acquisition of Halm Industries, a leading manufacturer of offset and digital printing presses. Halm has locations in Glen Head, New York, and Warmond, Netherlands.

With Halm as its 89th acquisition, Barry-Wehmiller, headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri (USA), grows to more than 11,000 team members in 100-plus locations worldwide.

AIFMP launches new schemes for career in printing

With a vision to promote print education in India and to prompt the young generation to adopt printing as a career, All India Federation of Master Printers (AIFMP) has come out with a few schemes. These include scholarship for girl student wishing to adopt printing as a career. AIFMP will offer maximum Rs. 50,000 per annum towards her tuition fees, till the completion of her studies in printing. One scholarship in each region (viz. North, East, South and West) will be awarded on merit-cum-financial status basis.

The federation has also announced stipend of Rs 1500 for economically weaker but meritorious students studying Diploma in any branch of Printing in India. Total 10 students will be selected every year at pan India level on merit-cum-financial status basis.

The federation has also announced three Gold Medals – one each for outstanding student of Diploma, B Tech and M Tech in any branch of printing every year.

RADO Packaging installs pre-press equipments on multiple presses countrywide

Based in Greater Noida, RADO Packaging is all India distributor of a host of pres-press equipments from the Taiwanese company Tarng Yung. Major products in the company’s current portfolio include powder extractor system, vision punch & bending machine, fully-automated punch & bending machine for web, plate mounter, dampening filtration solution system, among others. Over the last few months, RADO Packaging has installed a number of pre-press equipments in the production facilities of some of the leading printing firms in major cities.

Among the recent landmark installations of RADO Packaging, Lucknow-based Amber Press has mounted a TY-200PB optical register punch bending machine on their Heidelberg Speedmater 102 V (28x40). The similar pre-press system has been installed on Heidelberg CD-120 (28x40) at Arihant in Meerut. Also, the company has adopted a dampening filtration machine from RADO Packaging. Yet another client of the company is Sanjay Printer in New Delhi, whose newly adopted RYOBI 920 press has been equipped with a vision plate punch machine.

Latest in the installation list of RADO Packaging are two leading printing firms in Maharashtra—Hi Tech in Mumbai and Infina Printing Press in Pune. Both the firms have installed power extractor systems on their Heidelberg Speedmaster-74 presses. Walking hand in hand with one of the reputed international manufacturers of pre-press equipments, RADO Packaging has spread its footprints at pan-India level, serving some of the country’s highly reputed printing firms.

New president for Kodak’s Enterprise Inkjet Systems Division

Eastman Kodak Company has announced that Randy Vandagriff, who has played an integral role in the development of Kodak’s ULTRASTREAM technology and Kodak’s digital print business since 2004, will become president of the Enterprise Inkjet Systems Division effective May 1, 2017. Commenting on his new role Vandagriff said, “It’s an exciting time to continue driving Kodak’s inkjet business forward, as ULTRASTREAM Technology will move production inkjet into the mainstream of commercial printing, packaging, labels and home décor.”

Vandagriff will replace Philip Cullimore who is leaving Kodak to take a career sabbatical.

Kodak also announced a revision to its reporting structure. The Micro 3D Printing business within the Micro 3D Printing and Packaging division (MPPD) has been moved into a new division named Advanced Materials and 3D Printing Technology (AM3D), which also includes the operations of the current Intellectual Property Solutions Division. The new AM3D division is being led by Terry Taber, Kodak chief technical officer, as president. The Flexographic Packaging business, formerly part of MPPD, is being reported as a dedicated division. The Flexographic Packaging Division is led by Chris Payne, as president. These changes will be reflected in Kodak’s quarterly report on Form 10-Q for the first quarter of 2017.

Insoft Automation @ TAGA Technical conference

The annual Technical Association of Graphic Arts (TAGA) Technical conference was recently held in Houston, Texas. The uniqueness of this conference is focus on technology, research in graphic arts and printing industry. Papers are presented straight from the laboratory, studies from the pressroom, and software and systems engineering papers.

InSoft Automation was invited to present their Award-Winning Technology Imp. Chief technology officer of InSoft Sashikanth G. presented the technology comprehensively explaining the versatility of Print Ready Layout Creation software, the automation and built-in intelligence. Sashikanth, an Aeronautical Engineer from IIT, Madras is instrumental in bringing the new methodology and setting new direction in layout creation for Print.

Larry Warter is the recipient of 2017 Michael H. Bruno TAGA Award for outstanding contributions to the graphic arts industry. Larry Warter has been in the graphic arts field for 50 years in various sales, marketing, technical, and research positions with DuPont, Coulter, and Fujifilm.
