MIPT : Institute of choice for young professionals in printing

In the year 1978, Dr PB Kulkarni, founder of Pune Vidyarthi Griha (PVG), initiated a journey to educate and nurture technologists in the field of printing, electronics and telecommunication with the establishment of Maharashtra Institute of Printing Technology (MIPT). Today, this institute is transpired as an exclusive centre for printing education and training.

Located at a strategic point in the heart of Pune city, MIPT boasts of its every effort in mentoring and transforming students into professionals with good employability skills and characters. In addition to classroom tasks and training programmes, the institute provides its students with added activities that include industrial tours, sports and cultural events, so that they (students) can excavate their hidden talents just beyond academic.

Courses offered

At the onset, classroom at MIPT started barely with 50 students enrolled in a fulltime diploma course. In the subsequent years, part-time courses were introduced for working professionals who wish to get formal education and training in printing technology.

Soon after, the institute also introduced some short-term courses of three to six months to boost employability and small-scale businesses.

MIPT develops the curriculums of its diploma and certificate courses in a substantive structure embracing all aspects in terms of technologies, machines, applications and creativities. The institute offers four main courses, viz. Three- Year Diploma in Printing Technology (aided and full time); Four-Year Diploma in Printing Technology (unaided); Three-Year Diploma in Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering (un-aided); and One-Year Certificate Course in Reproduction Photography Plate-making & Offset Printing (composite).

Well-equipped labs

With a team of well-qualified and experienced teaching faculty, MIPT has excellent infrastructure that includes practical labs equipped with latest machines and technologies. Also, the institute’s teacher and student ratio is well maintained. In addition to classroom activities, MIPT conducts workshops, guest lecturers and industrial plant visits for students to enhance their technical knowledge and they are encouraged to write papers on their projects and present them at various forums. Even the institute’s faculty members upgrade their knowledge by attending refresher courses and relative workshops.

MIPT also offers short-term courses, training regimes and well-equipped labs, designed for professionals as well as those who are young and keen to pursue a career in printing technology or become self entrepreneurs.

Ample opportunities

Prepared in a focused approach, MIPT’s courses are nonconventional and conceived with ample employment opportunities. The curriculums are developed with the aspects of creating best of communication through printed media that can be of anything hovering around us in one form or the other, such as books, newspapers, tetra packs, sachets, food cans, beverage bottles and so on.

Student placements

Under the aegis of Prof RS Kamble, director in-charge and Prof PV Shinde, I/C principal, Maharashtra Institute of Printing Technology (MIPT), the institute has its board of directors whose ultimate aim is to provide continuous improvement in delivery of technical education and training. During and as part of the academic sessions, MIPT regularly arranges collaborative projects for students. Such activities set them (students) find placement or higher education opportunities.
